A Woman in the Ministry and Her Church are Honored

Reverend Courtina Reid is a minister at Christ Community Truth Church, where she tends a modest little flock. Rev. Reid manages to render loving oversight, even though the role of female minister is often very challenging. In March 2011, Reverend Reid’s congregation showed their appreciation for her and their church, located at 6010 South Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles, California. On that Sunday afternoon, members, family and friends packed into the small building to enjoy a spiritual concert, as a tribute to their “Pastor Reid”. A wide array of entertainment was provided by young and old alike, including a rendition of “Lift Every Voice” by a trio of little girls clad in beautiful white gowns.  

 Following the program that ran a little over an hour and a half, a delicious catered meal was served. A good time was truly had by all in attendance.The event was coordinated and hosted by the church’s Music Director M. Ford, along with the help of numerous other individuals.The meal was catered by: Tramaine’s Catering [323-448-4480] and included a beautiful cake, in appreciation of Pastor Reid.  The Church plans to make the occasion a yearly event, and members are already looking forward to the 2012 Annual Appreciation Program next year.  [Photos can be viewed on the Church’s website]

The March 2011 event at the Christ Community Truth Church served to convey the love and appreciation the congregation and community has for Rev. Reid. It also helped shed more light on the ministry work many women like Rev. Reid are engaged in. They are meeting challenges successfully everyday, particularly in low income and crime ridden areas like South Central Los Angeles. In a former interview with the Defining Moment Television Talk Show, Reid shared quite a bit with the host, Bret Moss. Both her and her former Associate Pastor, Margaret Tate shared much needed insight in the discussion of the role of women in the ministry.

Reverend Courtina Reid is one among many dedicated women in the ministry. Her work is more far reaching than just the building on south Nomandie. For example, she previously was a key figure when she attended a prayer/breakfast in the theme of “Fulfilling the Quest of Patriots and World Citizens”. According to the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC), this breakfast was to honor “… all who have served in ministry of any faith or denomination.” The ACLC reported that Reid gave a “very stirring reading of a section of the autobiography of Rev. At 11:00 am on Sunday mornings, church services begin at Christ Community Truth Church. Currently, the church is looking for singers, musicians, ushers, attendants, praise dancers and other committed volunteer workers.
