How To Survive Your First 50 Hubs
63Freelance writers just starting at HubPages look at the number of hubs other writers have written and wonder how on earth they do it. Some have literally hundreds of hubs! I'm nowhere near being a real “Mother Hubber”, compared to those writers. In fact, I’ve only just reached my fiftieth hub with this particular article. Although the journey to the first 50 hubs was challenging, it was well worth the trip. So for all you new article writers and Hubbers (new hub members), I’ve decided to provide some helpful advice on how to survive your first 50 hubs. I hope you will not only enjoy reading this information, but that you keep the valuable tips, strategies and resources in mind, and use them in all your online writing activities. If you do, you will not only survive writing your first 50 hubs, but your online writing success will just be a matter of time.
Pros and Cons Of Internet Marketing
There are many pros and cons of internet marketing. Your success in completing your first 50 hubs will depend on your productivity, patience and perseverance. That is because, the crazy thing about the internet is: All the things that make it good, are all the things that make it bad. For Example:
GOOD: You can literally reach thousands (even millions) of people in a remarkably short time, if not instantaneously. The whole world is potentially your audience.
BAD: There are literally millions of people online, many of them doing the same thing you’re trying to do (WHATEVER that is), therefore, it is a competitive environment.
GOOD: Because it’s such a big place, you can discover countless hidden gems that not everyone is aware of, and make a great profit.
BAD: Because it’s such a big place, not everyone can find you, even though you may have something very special and of value to offer.
I could go on with different examples, but you no doubt, get the point. Whatever your online activities happen to be, they will either benefit or suffer as a result of the above issues. Whether or not you survive the obstacles of writing online for a living will be dependent on two very important aspects of your writing. They are marketing and promotion
Marketing And Promoting First 50 Hub Articles
A lot of people who write or conduct any kind of business or activities online don’t realize they’re actually in the business of marketing and promotion. Those who regularly write hub articles should also be marketing and promoting hub articles.
Most hub writers don’t completely get this point or try to apply it until after writing 10 or 20 hubs and not experiencing any monetary results. They may have created lots of good and solid “evergreen” hubs that provide quality, useful and timeless information. These type of hubs will probably be receiving lots of comments and ranking a high Hub page score. But does that necessarily mean they are making money on those hubs? Unfortunately the answer is NO!
What some writers fail to realize is that whatever your online activities are, it is necessary to do some type of marketing or promoting. This is true, even if all you do is write a simple little blog about your favorite pet. If you want someone to actually read whatever it is you’ve written, you’ve got to let them know:
1) Your blog, article, web content, product, or services exists
2) Where and how they can find your blog, article, web content, product, or services
These are two necessary steps, no matter where you write, or whether you hope to get paid for your writing or not. If you do hope to get paid for your writing, you will definitely have to take the issue of marketing and promotion under consideration. Eventually you will need to implement some kind of regular marketing or promotional activities if you ever hope to succeed and make money through article writing, including hub articles. There are writers who disagree with the point about marketing and promoting your article writing. They choose to take NO action to increase their ad and other writing revenue. Those writers continually make the statement that “Content is king, so all you have to do is write good content and use the right keywords. Everything else will fall into place”.
NEW WRITERS: DO NOT BE DECEIVED! There is an unimaginable amount of money to be made online. But do not be lured into believing that you can just start making tons of money and not have to do anything for it. Not only is it not true, it’s not even realistic! Check out If Content Is King, What’s Queen? and also Content Is King, But Google Ads Rule! These two articles will help you survive from drowning in the misconceptions about content, and show you how to take the initiative in promoting your first 50 hub articles.
So while the world (wide web) is your oyster, it might be wise that you sit down and try and determine just what you hope to accomplish, and how you plan to go about finding your pearl. What effort are you prepared to put forth to achieve article writing success? Be prepared to read and start discovering what NOT to do right now, as well as what you should be doing. I guarantee you, it will save you a lot of hard work, and prevent you from becoming a frustrated writer that is not making any money online.
I Survived Writing My First 50 Hubs
Since I have survived writing my first 50 hubs and am proceeding on to the next 50 hubs, I know how to do things a lot smarter. Now that I have discovered how to make my hub articles work for me, I use them in all my other activities. Article writing can not only be a way of making money for the writing itself, but also a way to create other related income. So not only do I promote the articles I write, but I use those articles to successfully promote all my other online ventures.
If you don’t want all those “ever green” articles to sit and collect dust, you can’t just leave it to chance that someone will find them. Whether you have written 5, 15, or 50 hubs, this information still applies. While you’re waiting for your hubs to make you rich (LOL), you should be using them to your advantage. If you’re a new writer and just getting started, these vital facts will help you survive those first 50 hubs. If you grasp things quickly, you’ll see what you’re learning is right on the money, and you’ll be determined to learn more successful tips about how to create:
- Hubs that appeal to your readers (Writing titles and subject matter that draws the reader in)
- Hubs that make your readers “stick” (Appealing page layout, tone of article, and usefulness of material)
- Hubs that "move" your readers to action (Cause them to click ads, buy products and read additional hubs)
You can accomplish all three of these particular points and more by reading 5 Money Making Tips Most Hubbers Forget To Use. This article provides insight on many of the money-making opportunities on HubPages. Some of the available benefits (like earning money off other writer's hub articles), even veteran hub writers take for granted or completely overlook.
Choosing Article Writing For A Living
If you’re convinced that you want to "write for pay", and spend the rest of your days and nights pounding on a computer keyboard for money, you need to map out a plan of action. Choosing article writing for a living may be a wise decision, but is it a wise decision for you? It’s not just enough to have an ideal about what you want to write, but you also need to have some solid income generating ideals in mind.
This information is being dispensed 6 months after I embarked on a career as a serious online writer. Like most beginners in the online marketing field, I started out trying my hand at affiliate marketing first.. Unfortunately, some people (myself included) don’t do well promoting other people’s products. I realized, while I could very easily promote and endorse a service that I felt good about, I only halfheartedly promoted the various affiliate products that I signed up to represent. My head was in it, but my heart was not.
Although I worked long and hard the first two or three months, I
continued to fail. I didn’t realize how
my lack of success with this type
of affiliate product marketing was directly related to the fact that I didn’t give a hoot about the products, or about doing that kind of writing.
For a long time, I lived solely for the cyber-world, and I was on a mission to start getting paid. I barely took time to eat, groom and relieve myself, let alone to interact with my family and friends! I was a frustrated writer and not making anything at all. I won’t even get into how my finances were dwindling and my real world was slowly crumbling around me.
I can’t tell you how many times I considered giving up and returning to more conventional work. It was only after experiencing many pitfalls, let downs and discouragement, that I was able to finally start to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I began to slowly but surely get paid for my writing. I started receiving an income from numerous online article writing activities, including a "ghost writing" website that provides writers with legitimate writing gigs.. Eventually, I stumbled onto HubPages and began article writing on this excellent writer’s website and networking forum. I began to use it as a primary focus and center of all other writing activities. HubPages is truly a writer’s network that has been responsible for creating many successful article writers that regularly get paid for their efforts.
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF TRAFFIC GENERATING METHODS
Use Various Ways to Promote Your Hub Articles
Even though I have finally started to get paid from all the time, patience and hard work I've put into writing online, I still continue to find and use creative ways of generating more traffic to my writing. When it comes to getting paid ad revenue, more traffic means more money. I can’t emphasize this fact enough: If you want to survive writing your first 50 hub articles, don't take for granted the various ways to promote your hub articles and drive traffic to your writing. You can successfully increase the amount of traffic to your writing ANYTIME YOU WANT TO! This may sound like pure fabrication, but it is true. When you use classified ad posting (like I discuss in my articles) to drive traffic,to your writing, you are in control of whether or not you make daily money.
Because there are different ways of getting people to arrive at your hub articles to read your writing, you can't afford to take any methods for granted. I've provided two very crucial articles that you can benefit from when it comes to using classified ad posting to increase your traffic and income. One Guaranteed Way To Increase Traffic In 48 Hours Or Less and the companion article, Posting Classified Ads & AdImages Guarnateed To Increase Traffic!. These two articles combined, describe a highly effective and guaranteed way to increase traffic. Believe it or not, it is really true. You can actually increase traffic to your writing in 48 hours or less! The articles give you full details on this method, including a step-by-step break down of how it works. They even mention the downside of this type of promoting. Whether you decide to use the ad posting method or not, it is important to realize it is an effective and legitimate means of generating a high volume of traffic to your writing in an extremely short period of time.
Use The Skills And Information You Gain
Here are the ways I continue to use the skills and information I have gained by surviving my first 50 hubs:
Affiliate Marketing – writing ad copy to promote other people’s products and earn commissions
I have several different affiliate programs and products I indirectly promote, in addition to affiliate referral programs, like the HubPages writer’s compensation program.
Content Writing – providing web content on demand to various websites and receiving a predetermined flat fee (retaining writer byline)
I respond to various online requests for articles to be provided as web content. These customers allow me to get paid a predetermined flat rate for the privilege of using my writing. I get to keep the rights and the byline to these articles.
Ghost Writing – providing requested articles for customers who pay a predetermined flat fee (writer relinquishes rights and byline)
I write for Constant Content, a “ghost writing” website that provides me customer requested article assignments on a daily basis
Article Marketing– providing articles for publishing and promoting those articles in order to secure ad revenue from contextual advertising affiliates
In addition to regularly writing and publishing hub articles, I write several blogs and get paid for the ad revenue my blog posts generate. I usually provide links from by blog directly back to my related hub articles, so I can earn ad revenue from both platforms.
In conclusion, I want to say to all the new writers, whether you belong to HubPages or you write for some other writer’s network, be sure to write what you want to write, and NOT what you feel you have to write. If you do the kind of writing you don’t’ want to do (like I did when trying to write about products I could care less about), you will not be successful. Not only that, you will not survive on your journey to writing your first 50 hubs. Also, if you write what you really want to write, even when you don’t think it’s that popular a subject, you may be pleasantly surprised.
CONSIDER THIS FINAL POINT: The topic of many of my hubs has to do with making money online, especially through article writing. This seems to be my particular niche, however, the number one scoring hub article that is usually among my top 3 (if not the first on the list) is: Friendship - The Difference Between True Friends And Toxic Friends . I published this hub out of a need to express something I was feeling at the time, about a very real situation, and didn’t really think about if others would be interested in reading it (I guess that’s some of the old creative writer still in me). Now that I have taken notice of how much ORGANIC traffic this hub is getting, I have began to make sure that I'm taking full advantage of the traffic. That calls for adding additional monetizing efforts to make sure my viewers select a profitable course of action after reading the article. Learning how to do this, as well as using other effective hub writing techniques, has helped me be able to survive my first 50 hubs.
If You BOOKMARK This Valuable Hub, You Now Have EVERYTHING You Need To Go Forward & Succeed. Good Luck To You On Your First 50 Hubs!
