Think Clear

I almost shed a tear, but quickly changed my mind
I knew if one should trickle down, the rest, their way would find

I almost lost my temper, and really blew my stack
But stopped to really check myself, and made myself get back

I nearly lost my sanity. I found myself stressed out
But stopped to prioritize my life and find what life's about

At first I took a deep deep breath and counted one to ten
I quickly jotted down my goals, with much more vigor then

As I began to ascertain the new course of my life
I felt secure that I could stand the future pain and strife

For better times are up ahead, good things to still achieve
The tears and anger can depart, insanity can leave

So if you're ever feeling low, and almost shed a tear
Just look ahead beyond the pain, and let your mind think clear

Former Creative Writing Submission Process

I used to write poetry to flex my mental muscles. Rhyming words have always come very easy to me. While I'd never be so presumptuous as to call myself a poet, I have been known to have a flair for the spoken word. The poem you just read ("Think Clear") was written during a time when a lot of things were going on in my life, so I did what all writers do, I internalized it and wrote about it. The funny thing is, throughout the past two decades, when I find myself undergoing stress or just feel overwhelmed, I recite it to myself. That's the kind of writing that I miss writing. The kind that can inspire you over and over again throughout the years.

But it's not just about poetry, because story telling can be just as satisfying when it comes to scratching that creative itch. I enjoy watching stories unfold as the ideals fall from my head to the paper or computer screen. There is nothing like taking a blank sheet of paper or blank computer screen, and creating something from absolutely nothing.

Creative writing, can provide a writer with the most freedom and liberation to write, out of any and all other forms of writing. No research or references to be bothered with. No fact checking or error finding (except grammatical and typos of course). There is no right or wrong, especially these days, where the only rule is: There are no rules!.

For those writers who have done "ghost writing" for sites like Constant Content, creative writing can be a welcome change. It allows you the opportunity to write with no rules! While Constant Content is one of the best websites for writers looking for daily writing gigs that pay decent money, they have very stringent rules. If you are not a serious minded writer that can deal with deadlines, rejection letters, and temper-mental customers, Constant Content is not the site for you. I personally don't care a whole lot for the self-imposed pressure of writing on demand. I do the work, however, because the customers pay really well for for requested content, so it's worth it.

If you're an online writer you may get exhausted dealing with mandatory word counts, and necessary SEO, not to mention writing about topics that excite you just a little bit more than water boiling. If you have been longing for a really creative outlet where you can take off your writing restraints, I say, take them off right now!!!

Below are a few links to writer websites that I have used in the past. I at some time or another, provided them with some actual fiction writing. While you can very easily decide to create a fiction article right here on HubPages, and see what kind of feedback you get, I have to admit. When I start preparing to publish writing on HubPages, my mind won't even allow me to NOT try and monetize! Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe there really are ways to make money with creative writing onlline, right here at HubPages!  I certainly hope so.

Remembering The Old School Writer Within

I recently posed a question to a fellow writer and Hubber about the “art of creative writing”. For myself, creaative writing is reminiscint of the old school writer within me. When I think of that writer, it makes me miss the art of creative writing. For many of us, you could even call it the “lost art of creative writing”. I mentioned to my friend that I missed doing the kind of writing that made me fall in love with words so many years ago.

As a former journalism major, when I fell in love with words, I fell hard. During those times (the early nineties), if a writer wanted to submit their writing for publication, it was a timely and exhausting process. The necessary steps included:

  • Combing through the WRITER'S MARKET - known as the writer's bible
  • Creating and Suubmitting tons of QUERY letters to solicist editors and publishers to look at your work.
  • Waiting A lifetime (or at least a few minths) to hear back from editors and publishers, usually only to get a nice little preformatted REJECTION LETTER telling you thanks but no thanks.

Yep, those were the days!

I asked myself is it possible to resume where I left off so many years ago, with a desire to create a great piece of fiction. I know the desire still remains, but a lot of time has passed and a lot of water under the bridge.

Will the tons of creative writing workshops, writing seminars and writers conventions attended in the past be enough to fuel the long stressful ride to fiction writing success? Older writers who come from an era of typewriters and word processors can probably relate to my fears and concerns. Many of the writing concepts and principals I learned as a journalism student in the nineties, I still implement to this day.

Some things can be chalked up to writing trends and methodology, and therefore become obsolete. But certain fundamentals still apply, like proper sentence structure, and other more technical aspects of creative writing. For many of us writers, the actual writing itself is not the problem. The challenges, fears, obstacles and just plain old B.S. of everyday life is the problem! I realize those things won't go away, so committing to creative writing, especially with any hopes of making money, will require the same thing as writing fiction articles and typical web content, and that is HARD WORK!

Now that I feel totally up to the task, it is my objective to provide many more hub articles pertaining to Creative Writing, as well as providing some creative and thought provoking presentation of ideals. Anyone interested in providing a link to their own CREATIVE (FICTION) WRITING, by all means, FEEL FREE TO DO SO.

All that being said, here are some great writing resources for Creative Writers Online:
